Exciting News! We’re Heading Back to Wild Deserts for Another Ecology Immersion Day!

Get ready for another unforgettable adventure as we head back to Wild Deserts, and this time, we’re on the hunt for the elusive Western Quoll!

Come join us for a day packed with science, creativity, storytelling, and hands-on fieldwork as we dive into the world of one of Australia’s most fascinating marsupials and explore its unique habitat.

We’re teaming up with Wild Deserts again for this awesome immersion event, where we’ll learn from our favourite ecologist, Rebecca West, and get our creative juices flowing with Big Sky Stories very own Jane Vaughan. It’s going to be a day full of fun, learning, and a little bit of magic as we explore the wildlife of the Corner Country with costume-making thrown into the mix! Heaps of fun for children and adults alike.

And here’s the best part — children will help to write our very own story about the Western Quoll, which will be published in a book later this year! How cool is that?

But that’s not all! We’re so excited to announce that later in 2025, we’ll be putting on a mini-dramatic production to celebrate the launch of not one, but two books created during our two ecology immersion events! The best part? The children who participate will take centre stage in the performance, right in Tibooburra! We would love as many children participants as we can get.

Want to make the most of the experience? You can stay overnight, and trust us, you won’t want to miss our popular night time spotlight session — but hurry, the beds fill up fast!

Here’s what you’ll need to bring: snacks, lunch, hats, water bottles, sunscreen, and your own vehicle. We’ll start the day exploring the field, then head back to Wild Deserts in the afternoon for some creative fun.

A massive thank you to West Darling Arts and Transgrid for making this incredible experience possible. We couldn’t do it without you!

To be a part of this amazing immersive learning experience, email us here at Big Sky Stories on hello@bigskystories.org.au to register.

For accommodation, please email Rebecca West on Rebecca.west@unsw.edu.au.

Can’t wait to see you all there for a day of fun, learning, and adventure!
