Exciting announcement – New initiative ensures every baby born in Broken Hill is set on the path to literacy with free Newborn Literacy Packs
Newborn Literacy Packs
Here at Big Sky Stories, we are incredibly thrilled to announce that after many months in the works, a very special initiative to start Broken Hill babies on the path to literacy has been approved!
This year, every baby born in Broken Hill will receive a Newborn Literacy Pack to welcome them into the world. Each bundle will feature age-appropriate books, a guide to help babies on their reading journey, a Big Sky Stories book voucher as well as a handy little finger puppet for more storytelling fun!
We are so grateful to the Broken Hill Lions International, The Indigenous Literacy Foundation, Walker Books Australia, and the very generous individuals who helped make this significant project feasible.
We are equally excited to have the enthusiastic support of the Child and Family Services team of the Far West Local Health District making sure that no one misses out.
Reading with your baby from day one helps build attachment. Listening to the sounds, rhythms, repeating lines, and enjoying images is a vital step in their early language development.
We hope these bundles create connection, joy, and a lifelong love of reading and creativity. Hopefully, one day, we will meet these little ones at a playgroup, a workshop, Big Sky Stories, or a community event so that we can encourage, enable, and equip little ones towards a love of books!
Thank you again to everyone who made this possible!
